EUR 20 gives one household access to electricity and reduces carbon emission by 1.5 ton CO2

By supporting our foundation, you will not only facilitate access to renewable energy to one or more low-income households in rural Africa; you will also contribute to reducing carbon emission. Households with solar energy systems reduce their kerosene use for lighting and diesel generators for generating electricity.

It costs only EUR 20 to give a 5-person household access to renewable energy. This money is used to ensure (1) affordable systems are available in the rural area; (2) the retailer is properly trained to provide good services and installations; (3) good after-sales services and warranty are given; and (4) low-income households have access to credit making it possible to procure their solar home system. The se households typically repay these loans with the savings they make on kerosene! Less than 8% of your donation is used to cover overhead costs.

REF's low-cost effective approach was recognized in 2010 by the European Union and by the International Ashden Awards. REF was in 2010 also registered by the Central Bureau on Fundraising (CBF) in the Netherlands. The CBF is an independent foundation which has been monitoring fundraising by charities since 1925. The CBF's task is to promote trustworthy fundraising and expenditure by reviewing fundraising organizations and giving information and advice to government institutions and the public. In addition, donations are subject to special tax treatment by the Dutch tax authorities.
